Vibe Coding for Moms: How I Built My Whole Shop by Describing It

Two years ago I could not have told you what a line of code looks like. I still cannot. And yet the website you are reading this on, the shop attached to it, the checkout that takes payment, and the emails that send themselves were all built by me, at my kitchen table, between homeschool lessons.

Not by learning to program. By describing what I wanted, in plain English, to an AI tool that writes the code for me.

They call it vibe coding. I call it the first shortcut I have ever trusted.

What is vibe coding, plainly?

Vibe coding means telling an AI tool what you want your website or app to do, in ordinary sentences, and letting it write the code. You say what you want. You look at what it built. You say what to change. That is the entire skill.

A real example from building this site. I typed something close to this: "Make me a warm, elegant home page for a faith-based brand called His Fine Linen. Cream background, a serif font, a photograph at the top, and a button that says Start here." A minute later, it existed. Not a mockup. A real page, live on the internet.

The name comes from the software world, where engineers noticed that you could build whole projects by keeping the vibe of what you wanted in front of the AI and letting it handle the syntax. The name is new. The shift underneath it is not going away, and the tools get better every month.

Do I need to know how to code?

No, and I need you to actually believe that, because I almost did not start over this exact doubt. You will never write code. If you can write a text message describing what you want, you have the required skill.

What you do need is the thing nobody talks about: knowing what to ask for, in what order. A blank AI chat box is exactly as overwhelming as a blank page. The women I know who tried "just playing with AI" and gave up did not fail at prompting. They failed at sequencing, because no one told them what to build first.

The part that takes endless time, the technical building, collapses to minutes. The part you were always good at, knowing what your family and your people need, is the part that remains.
